The X-Lite X-1004 is a modular helmet that reaffirms and improves the already appreciated technical features of its predecessor, the X-1003. In addition, for those who want a modular with the plus of the carbon fiber you have available the version of the X-1004 in Ultra Carbon. Undoubtedly, we have two modular helmets for the most demanding riders.
In the shell we find the biggest difference between the X-Lite X-1004 and the X-Lite X-1004 Ultra Carbon. The first one is manufactured in multi-fiber, but in the case of the carbon version, a shell made of an extremely light carbon fiber composite finishes the whole.

The weight of the helmet is lower in the carbon version (1510 g. in M size), which translates into greater comfort for the rider.
There are three sizes of outer shell for a better fit to each size.
X-Lite relies for the two helmets in a lever + button system, like in the Nolan helmets.
The opening mechanism has been improved over its predecessor, the X-1003. They have called it 'Dual Action' and allows one-handed opening and reduces the risk of accidental opening. In addition, the chin area has been slightly lengthened to offer maximum comfort, but retaining a compact design.
The chinstrap of the two helmets works with the same lever system plus button, as we see in the image.
The two helmets have a secure to hold the chin rest in a vertical position because it has the double homologation P/J. This is located on the left side of the helmet, visible only when driving in jet mode.
The X-Lite X-1004 has two practical front air inlets, one upper and one in the chin rest area, with three positions. In addition, it has a grid rear outlet.
The inlets of the X-1004 are in the upper front and chinrest, while the outputs are not adjustable.
The screen of the X-1004 has a wide field of vision, anti-scratch treatment, quick disassembly and a double action mechanism located in the left-hand fixture of the screen. This mechanism helps us to prevent accidental opening of the screen.
As a good touring helmet, it also has a detachable integrated sun visor. It has anti-scratch, anti-fog and UV 400 protection. Its drive is located on the left side of the helmet, just behind the screen.
The screen of the X-1004 allows to block it to circulate with it in a half-open way.
The helmet also includes a Pinlock to prevent mist formation.
The X-1004 has a very marked touring DNA. We found very soft paddings designed to travel long distances and totally removable for cleaning.
These have mesh tissue inserts to improve the air flow.
The paddings have mesh inserts to improve ventilation.
However, the Ultra Carbon version has a more sporty touch thanks to the use of the "Carbon Fitting Racing Experience" padding, made with active carbon filaments. Active carbon is characterized by being breathable, thermo-regulating, antistatic, antiallergic and 100% natural.
The paddings of the X-1004 Ultra Carbon also have mesh but also beads with active carbon filaments.
As for the side quilts of the two models, they are designed to suit users wearing glasses. Another unique aspect is the padding of the base of the helmet, which functions as a cervical protector and is removable by zipper for the hot days.
Closure and details
The closure is micrometric with double lever, called Microlock2, a fast and secure system of fastening the helmet that facilitates the use.
The X-1004 has the possibility of installing an intercom N-Com X-Series BX5 and BX1, although they are not included and must be purchased separately. Other details are the chin curtain and breath guard.
The closure of the two helmets X-1004 is micrometric, easy and fast to handle.
In summary, the X-Lite X-1004, as well as its Ultra Carbon version, have surprised us positively at all levels: interior, materials, general quality. We have two amazing modular helmets with an even sporty character.
